It feels like the drive takes forever. It’s a long road back home, and if I had protection in my wallet or the glove box, I would be sorely tempted to say yes to Jillian’s desire to stop by the side of the road.

Her impatience led to us stopping once already, and I can’t complain at how that went.

I slow down as we reach the parking lot, and my heart starts to hammer as I park up.

I take a slow breath to calm my nerves before I step out of the car.

She moves up the stairs slowly, glancing back when I don’t immediately follow.

“Are you coming, or do I have to get myself off again?” Her teasing smile makes my lips twitch.

I start after her and she moves a little faster, apparently in the mood to play.

I dart up the last few stairs and capture her in my arms. She feels so good that I don’t want to let her go, even for a second. It would stop her from running again, if I just never let go.

She pushes back, as if she’s trying to mould herself into my body, her head going up so she can meet my gaze. “I’m good without the bed if you are,” she murmurs. “I don’t know how much you want to scandalize your neighbors...”

I lift her up and carry her to the room I share with Phoenix.
